About My Challenge
I'm doing 2,000 push-ups in 23 days as part of The Push-Up Challenge to raise awareness and funds for mental health. This target represents the 2,000 people who died by suicide each day, worldwide. You can push for better mental health too by donating to my fundraising page and supporting this important cause: www.thepushupchallenge.co.uk/fundraisers/gabrielalder/the-push-up-challenge All proceeds enable Samaritans to answer more calls for help from those at crisis point or feeling suicidal. Any donation, big or small, is really appreciated!
Theres a few reasons I've decided to do this challenge ....
I did a similar one years ago for a different charity and it's such an easy way to raise money for such a good cause, but that's the easy reason.
The real reason this one means so much to me is for the simple fact that it sits close to my heart. This isn't something I speak about with many people as it's partly embarrassing and shameful to me, but also it's something I've tried to leave in the past. I struggled with my mental health many years ago and it was actually my children that dragged me away from that feeling and brought me a step closer to the man I am today and closer to the man I want to be moving forward.
No one should feel that ending things is the only way out.
Men are more often than not brought up to just deal with things themselves and get on with it ....
But I've found that over the years talking about issues helps with steps to dissolving them. Talk out your feelings with someone you trust, and little by little they become less daunting and more manageable.
If anyone needs to talk to someone I'm always here with an open ear and a shoulder to lean on.
If anyone can donate even just a small amount to this great cause I would be so appreciative.
And lastly thank you for taking the time to read this .... It wasn't easy to display myself like this, but I truly believe it's important enough that it could make a difference.

Supporting Samaritans
Samaritans is the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen. People calling for change with those who need to listen. People who’ve been there before, with those struggling now.
Samaritans make sure there’s always someone to listen if you’re in crisis or feeling suicidal. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
By donating, you're helping someone with suicidal thoughts get help when they need it most.
