About My Challenge
This February, I’m taking on a new push‑up challenge to raise funds for Samaritans, a charity that plays a vital role in supporting people in emotional distress and preventing suicide. Their volunteers are available 24/7, offering a lifeline to anyone who needs someone to listen — no judgement, no pressure, just compassion when it’s needed most.
The challenge set is 2,000 push ups from 5th Feb to 27th Feb, which symbolises the 2,000 estimated lives lost worldwide to suicide every day.
Suicide remains a major public health issue. In England men consistently account for 74% of suicide deaths, a trend seen for decades. Samaritans are one of the few organisations that collate and analyse suicide data across the UK and Ireland, helping shape prevention efforts and ensuring support reaches those most at risk. Their work genuinely saves lives.
After completing the 100 Push‑Up Challenge in November 2022 for Cancer Research — which was tough but incredibly rewarding — I wanted to revisit in 2026 and put my energy into another cause that means a lot to me. This time, every push‑up is for someone who might be struggling in silence.
