5,000 Pushups for Mental Health
Myself and Sean will complete 5,000 push-ups (2,500 each) in 23 days to raise awareness of mental health and fundraise for Samaritans. Mental health is a cause that is very personal and important to me for several reasons.
One of my close friends, Cade, took his own life late last year. I met him while I was away on a year abroad in Arizona, and we became friends through our fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha.
Cade was an incredibly humble and inspirational person. He loved his friends and family, was always kind and respectful, and — above all — loved working out. When I heard about this challenge, it felt like a perfect way to raise money and awareness while celebrating his life.
Cade's passing affected me immeasurably, and it made me realise how important and overlooked mental health and wellbeing are, especially for men. Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50 in the UK, with 14 men dying by suicide every day - one every 100 minutes. It's extremely widespread, and its complexities make it difficult to address.
Something as simple as talking to others, however, can be an incredibly impactful way to help someone who is struggling with their mental health. Whether it's a friend, a therapist or calling someone from the Samaritans, even one conversation can make a difference.
The Samaritans provide 24/7, year-round emotional support to anyone struggling to cope, experiencing distress or at risk of suicide. In 2024, Samaritans volunteers responded to more than 3.3 million calls for help; 9,000 calls a day. Suicidal feelings were expressed during 1 in 4 calls for help where Samaritans volunteers provided support.
The money raised by this fundraiser will go to helping the Samaritans answer more calls for help from those at crisis point or feeling suicidal. Any donations appreciated. Thank you.

Supporting Samaritans
Samaritans is the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers who will always listen. People calling for change with those who need to listen. People who’ve been there before, with those struggling now.
Samaritans make sure there’s always someone to listen if you’re in crisis or feeling suicidal. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
By donating, you're helping someone with suicidal thoughts get help when they need it most.
